Manila, Philippines – Disaster management authorities on Monday said they are ready for any eventuality when the North Korean Government launches a rocket on Wednesday.
Allan Tabell, liaison officer of the Department of Interior and Local Government to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, said during a news briefing that 300 to 400 municipalities in Luzon Island were told to stay on guard and prepare for evacuation if needed.
For his part, National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Center (NDRRMC) Executive Director Benito Ramos said there is a possibility that the rocket could deviate and affect Metro Manila.
He said 150 nautical miles off Polilio Island is a hairline difference to Metro Manila. I'm not discounting the possibility.
Tabell said since a few days ago, Interior and Local Government Secretary Jess Robredo tasked local government executives in Northern Eastern Luzon to be ready for any eventuality.
