18-year old Sergio Pinex had moved over from Chicago to Indiana to begin a new chapter in his life. He had a new job and a new apartment – but, his Fate willed otherwise. He was shot dead by two goons just because he refused to part with his sneakers as reported in Foxnews of 7th April 2012.
Sergio was returning with his friend from a store in Gary, Indiana, when two vehicles, one a purple PT Cruiser and the other a white Cadillac, pulled up beside them.
Two men, brandishing guns, got out of the vehicles and demanded that Sergio and his friend hand over their wallets and shoes!!
Sergio’s friend obliged and was set free. They asked Sergio to lie down – he refused to do that and was shot dead.
Gun violence is becoming too frequent in the USA and is a menace for ordinary law abiding citizens. Those with guns shoot at the slightest pretext to let off steam and target others at will. They do not hesitate to attack schools and any person they take a dislike to, for whatever reason.
It seems the days of the Wild West are reappearing when the gun was the law.
The administration must accept the fact and evolve preventive measures to combat such meaningless violence.
