Commander Sopck’s home world of Vulcan is a fictional creation; but Vulcan really does exist on Earth…in Canada; in the Province of Alberta – south southeast of Calgary. The 2012 Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo is set to open at the end of the month; but before that, fans of “Star Trek” in Calgary can take advantage of a little twenty-fourth century technology in the twenty-first century with the Transporter App.
Using one of two transporter themed Calgary bus shelters and the Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo and Vulcan Tourism Transporter App for iPhone and iPad fans can “beam” themselves, and their friends, in and out free of charge. Once the expo is over the bus shelters, and the software, will be relocated to Vulcan where they will become a permanent interactive display. A third bus shelter will be available at the Expo.
The Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo will be held April 27-30 where the highlight of the event will be a reunion of the principle cast members of “Star Trek: The Next Generation” for the show’s twenty-fifth anniversary – Gates McFadden, LeVar Burton, Wil Wheaton, Brent Spiner, Jonathan Frakes, Denise Crosby, Marina Sirtis, Michael Dorn, and Sir Patrick Stewart.
