A survey by leading European travel site, Skyscanner, says the Philippines is among the ‘least rude’ countries for foreign tourists next to Brazil and the people from the Caribbean islands, reports The Inquirer.
But the rudest of all is France, followed by Russia and the United Kingdom.
Tatiana Danilova, Russian market manager for Skyscanner, says “Taking 19 percent of the vote, the French have long been known for their abrupt and curt nature, especially when dealing with foreign tourists, which has often been taken as rudeness by visitors.”
Danilova says the Russians, however, are more direct when talking, which maybe construed as being rude, because their language, when directly translated to English ‘can sound rude to an English speaker even if they don’t mean it to.’
Skyscanner lists the world’s rudest nationalities as French- 19.2%, Russian- 16.6%, British- 10.4%, German- 9.9%, Chinese- 4.3%, American- 3.3%, Spanish- 3.1%, Italian- 2.3%, Polish- 2.2%, and Turkish-2.1%.
