KOLKATA, India (Fri, Apr 06) – Delhi Daredevils (DD) outclassed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) yesterday in the second match, shortened to 12-over-a-side game due to rain, of the ongoing IPL 2012 here at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
Delhi skipper Virender Sehwag invited Kolkata to bat first after winning the toss and his bowlers responded brilliantly to the call of their captain. KKR managed to register just 97 on board which never threatened Delhi batsmen, who achieved the target with 8 wickets and 5 balls to spare.
After the match; Sehwag said his bowlers, led by pacer Morne Morkel, build the stand for the easy victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their opening match of IPL 2012.
South African Morne Morkel grabbed 3 wickets for 18 runs, while Umesh Yadav and Roelof van der Merwe picked up 2 wickets each to restrict the Knight Riders to 97 for nine in the rain-delayed match, which shortened by 8 overs each from both teams.
"Boys did very well, bowlers bowled brilliantly after we won the toss. We also fielded very well," Sehwag said after the clinical 8-wicket triumph at the Eden Gardens.
He also hailed Aaron Finch, who scored quick fire 30 off just 27 balls at the top of the order.
"Aaron Finch outscored me, he played very well," Sehwag said.
’s rapid 42-run unbeaten innings, which just took 20 balls, help guide Delhi's run chase. Pathan’s fiery display with bat and Morkel’s brilliance with ball proved to be the real difference between the two sides. Irfan Pathan was named man of the match.
After this victory Delhi spotted at second step on points table while KKR dropped to number eight after losing precious 2 points. (Detailed Points table after day 2 match is given above).
