"I have never asked for special consideration. I only wanted to compete," says Jenna Talackova, a Canadian transsexual beauty queen who was originally disqualified from the 2012 Miss Universe Canada pageant because she was not a naturally born female.
Reportedly, the 23-year-old Talackova was born a male. She began a hormone therapy at age 14 and had sexual reassignment surgery at age 19.
In a press conference on Tuesday, the Canadian model together with her lawyer Gloria Allred, asked Donald Trump to eliminate the rule that Miss Universe contestants must be naturally born females, because she does not want any other woman to suffer from the discrimination that she had endured, reports Good Morning America.
The Miss Universe organization administered by the organization of Donald Trump, said in their statement that Talackova can compete in the pageant provided “she meets the legal gender recognition requirements of Canada, and the standards established by other international competitions.”
The 2012 Miss Universe Canada pageant will be held on May 19 in Toronto.
