Thirty-eight fighters of Al Qaeda were killed in raids and bombings of the armed positions against Yemeni network in southern Yemen
According to one military official, the raids and the bombings helped to dislodge the fighters of Al Qaeda positions they had taken control Saturday in Al-Mallah, in the province of Lahej.
According to an officer of the army in the field, American aircraft were involved in raids. Raids attributed to the United States, led notably by drones, are frequently members of al-Qaida in southern and eastern Yemen , although Washington does not recognize conduct such operations.
STRONGER PRESENCE IN THE SOUTH AND EAST
The al-Qaida fighters had taken control of positions Saturday in Al-Mallah, after fierce fighting that had killed at least 40 dead, including 28 soldiers. Advantage of the weakening of the power center in favor of the popular uprising that led to the departure of President, Al-Qaeda has strengthened its presence in southern and eastern Yemen. It controls since May 2011 including the city of Zinjibar, capital of the southern province of Abyan.
