Seven people were killed and three others injured when a lone man opened fire at an Oakland Christian University. Police were able to apprehend the suspect hours later.
The shooting happened at Oikos University in Oakland on Monday midmorning. After an hour after the shooting started, police officers still thought the shooter was still in the area. But hours later, the suspect, an Asian male in his 40s, was captured at a shopping center in the city of Alameda.
According to witnesses and the police’s report, the shooting happened inside the building. Those inside locked their rooms, hid and some ran. One of the injured said the shooter was her student. Pastor Jong Kim, the school’s founder, said the shooter was a student of nursing but was no longer enrolled.
It was a very dark day for the victims and the survivors. Police said the shooter acted alone but they have yet to reveal the motive. Above you can see the some of the graphic aftermath photos of the shooting courtesy of Noah Berger of Associated Press, Beck Diefenbach of Reuters and ABC News.
