It was 20 years ago that Whitney Houston became the "Queen of the Night" when she made her big-screen debut in The Bodyguard within the titular role hired to protect her from a stalker.
Despite mixed reviews, the film not only launched Whitney's acting career, but it also had the biggest-selling soundtrack of all time thanks her powerful cover version of Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You".
Now, what was set to be her anticipated comeback has tragically become her swan song in Sparkle, where Whitney co-stars as the mother of American Idol alumni Jordin Sparks' titular protagonist.
The remake of the 1976 musical, the film focus on three sisters becoming a singing trio during the heyday of Motown music back in the 1960s.
The soundtrack feartures new music from both Whitney and Jordin.
Sparkle comes out August 17, so check out the trailer at TVGuide.com.
