"It stinks not being able to be out there with the team. And you know it is what it is and so hopefully I can come back as soon as I can and help everybody," the NBA star Jeremy Lin told press, expressing his disappointment after a painful workout on Saturday.
The New York Knicks point guard will miss rest of the regular of the season (ending April 26), for six weeks as he will undergo a knee surgery, the Associated Press reported.
After having had an MRI exam this week, it was revealed that Lin, 23, has a small, chronic meniscus tear in his left knee and is scheduled to have arthroscopic surgery next week in New York.
Coach Mike Woodson said “It is a big blow.”
The Basketball sensation is hopeful that the surgery would heal fast so he could come back as soon as possible and contribute on the season.
"It's disappointing for me, it's hard to watch the games and I think I'd want to be out there obviously more than anything right now, Lin said during a pregame press conference on Saturday.
Reportedly, the Knicks push for playoffs will go on without Lin. The team will count on to the veteran Baron Davis as a starting point guard to finish the season. Davis, a former All-star player also has his own health concern, having a herniated disk in his back.
The U.S.-born Knicks is the son of Taiwanese immigrants and the only NBA star with a Harvard degree. Lin, who started his sports career earlier this year, had made an amazing journey to stardom as a basketball hero. He scored 25 points in the New York victory and made the Knicks won seven straight games that gained world-wide attention.
Following the footstep of the former Houston Rockets, Yao Ming, he charmed Chinese basketball fans and the world with the “Linsanity” which made the headlines.
