Thailand Grapples With Deadly Tensions Between Muslims, Buddhists

31/3, a 5 Star hotel in Hat Yai town of Songkhla province, southern Thailand, has caught fire as five people were killed and more than 300 others were injured.

Songkhla Provincial Governor, Mr. Grisada, said the fire originated from an explosion of gas pipeline system, not bombs as the media reported earlier.

According Grisada, the dead included four men and one woman, while more than 300 guests were trapped in fire and smoke. Said another 28 people were hospitalized.

Hat Yai is a city of trade and tourism in southern Thailand, bordering Malaysia. Police said among those injured included foreign tourists, but does not have specific information.
