
Adrienne Rich is a feminist and a gay and antiwar activist poet who has died at age 82. She died of complications from rheumatoid arthritis at her home in Santa Cruz, California.
She took on such topics as women's rights and racism. Her poetry and books had a cause to them.
She wrote more than a dozen books of poetry and five nonfiction books.
IN 1974, she won a National Book Award for her collection called "Diving into the wreck." She wrote a statement with two other book award winners that year, Alice Walker and Audre Lorde that said, "refusing the terms of patriarchal competition and declaring that we will share this prize to be used the best we can for women."
Her 2004 book, "The school among the ruins" won national book critics award circle.
