Rudolf Hess exhumed to deter neo-Nazi pilgrims

Skooter reporting 03/31/12

The black marble headstone marking the grave of Adolf Hitler’s parents, Alois and Klara Hitler has been removed from an upper Austria village cemetery. The removal was requested by an elderly female descendant of Alois’ first wife, Anna. The place is also a pilgrimage for neo-Nazis. The grave is set for a new burial and was available for a new lease, village priest Kurt Pitterschatscher said Friday. What is left at the site is a white gravel square and a tree.

The mayor of Leonding village, Walter Brunner said the tombstone with the faded black and white portrait photos of Alois and Klara Hitler was taken down Wednesday. Usually Austrian graves are leased for periods of 10 years, but are renewable and can be yield to friends or relatives.
