A thief planned to rob an 88-year old woman Woodhouse Park, Manchester – she was hard of hearing as well as a near blind and lived alone. She used a magnifying glass to read.
The thief, therefore, roped in a 10-year old boy to act as a decoy and divert her attention.
His plan succeeded and he decamped with the woman’s purse containing her money and the magnifying glass quite easily.
The plan was not an elaborate one – he sent in the boy first. He was crying and claiming that he was lost. The tears roused the motherly instinct in her and she tried to comfort and calm him down. At that point, the thief made his dramatic entry.
He expressed gratitude to the old woman for taking care of his ‘lost’ son and requested her for a glass of water.
When she went inside, the thief pocketed her purse from the side table and vanished.
Police have launched a hunt for both the man and his accomplice, the boy.
