Stockholm, Sweden. - The Sweden's defense minister, Sten Tolgfors quit his post on Thursday after weeks of pressure for him to resign. At issue was a report that the Nordic state planned to help Saudi Arabia to build a weapons plant.

Defence Minister Sten Tolgfors has survived several attempts to make him quit, according to initial reports on public radio in early March. The controvercy surrounded his plans for the state-run defense research agency, FOI, and their offer to help Saudi Arabia build its plant, allegations Tolgfors denied.
''But the fire's smoke of the affair continued to surface, and steadily it increases pressure on him. So he voluntarily tendered his resignation," said Roberta Alenius, spokeswoman for Prime Ministeroffice.
