The “Inside Man” director, Spike Lee intended to retweet George Zimmerman's home address, but instead of the home of the killer of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, Lee’s tweet contained the address of an elderly Florida couple, Elaine and David McClain fearing now for their safety. The McClains had a son whose name is reportedly similar to that of Zimmerman.
The elderly couple had already received a disturbing letter and that Elaine McClain feared that her family would be targeted.
“We're keeping everything locked,” McClain told the Smoking Gun.
Zimmerman was the neighborhood watch member who shot and killed the unarmed African-American teenager Martin last month in Florida.
Spike Lee’s retweet had not been deleted as of Wednesday afternoon. A spokeswoman for Lee did not respond to request for comment.
The original tweet was sent by Marcus Davonne Higgins to Lee and celebrities like Will Smith on Friday with a request to repost the address.
