And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.

-- Gen. 28:19 (KJV)

The name of the city mentioned was called Luz. The name Luz means "almond tree, perverse, bending, going back." Jacob changed the name from Luz to Bethel. The name Bethel means "house of God."

You can use this verse to prove that the Bible is true because there is a town named Bet El in the country of Israel. That town is in the same exact spot in which Jacob was.

Numerical Analysis: The numerical pattern for this verse is 1,2,8,9. (1) To follow God, reside in His house. (2) To follow after God's kingdom, do not turn your back on Him. (8) To have a new beginning in God, do not turn your back on Him. (9) To overturn evil, do not turn your back on the Lord.
