It’s the last week of the battle rounds on “The Voice” and the mentors will finish the night with half of the singers they began with four weeks ago…in all 24 singers will advance on to the live performance rounds.
Cee Lo has four singers left, he chooses James Massone and old school R&B singer Wade performing “True Colors” by Cyndi Lauper. Helping out Cee Lo mentor his singers are Ne-Yo and Babyface. During rehearsals the boys made Cee Lo cry and proud. Adam said James’ voice grabbed him more but noted that there was work to be done. Christina said that Wade had a great voice but had some pitchy moments. Cee Lo said that James was a pleasant surprise but noted that Wade was nervous on the stage. Cee Lo chose James as the winner of the battle round.
Next up Adam chose Nicolle Galyon and Mathai to “Love Song” by Sara Brailles. Helping out Adam to mentor his artists are Alainis Morissette and Robin Thicke. Although a piano player, Adam decided not to have Nicole play during her performance. Blake said the battle came down to simply breathing. Christina said Mathai brought the energy. Cee Lo felt Nicolle’s performance was too cut and dry. Adam wasn’t very happy with the performance and a little let down; but chose Mathai to move on to the performance rounds.
It’s Christina’s turn for a battle performance. It’s Christina’s last two performers with Hip-Hop singer Moses Stone and country duo The Line perform the Rolling Stones hit “Satisfaction”. Helping Christina out with the mentoring duties of her artists are Jewel and Lionel Richie. Cee Lo said Moses worked the stage and Moses had a better all around performance. Adam like the interesting take on the song. Blake thought it was good but weird. Christina pointed out that “The Voice” didn’t have to be one specific thing; she chose Moses as he winner of the battle round and to move on to the next round. Christina can now relax because her team is complete.
Adam puts his last two singers together with blues man Orlando Napier and country singer Karla Davis for the Hall and Oates hit Ksong “Rich Girl”. But during rehearsals Adam noticed that maybe it was the wrong kind of song and chose the Lionel Richie song “Easy”. Robin called Orlando a painter – the Picasso of the group. Blake didn’t think anyone ran away with the battle but felt Orlando had a better overall performance. Christina felt it was a lack luster performance. Cee Lo like Orlando’s blue eyed soul sound. Adam said that Orlando had something special and noted that Karla was beginning to blossom. Adam chose Karla as the winner of the battle. Adam’s team too is complete; now only Blake and Cee Lo remain to complete their teams.
Blake chose “I’m Yours” byby Jordan Rager and Naia Kete to battle it out and complete his team. Blake has his wife Miranda Lambert and Idol winner to help him out with the mentoring duties of his team members. Christina said that Blake looked like a proud Papa. After his fellow judges all thought Naia was their chose, Blake noted that Naia showed her nerves and that there were a number of pitch issues on both performers. Blake chose the voice of experience and picked Naia as the winner of the battle. And with that Blake’s team is complete.
The last performance of the night was a battle between Tony Vincent and Justin Hopkins in a performance of “Faithfully” by Journey – a song that Cee Lo admits to liking a great deal. Ne-Yo noted that the emotion of the song was the power of the song. Adam liked Justin’s voice; but added that both singers were great. Blake said Justin gave a sold performance. Christina felt Tony was more versatile. Cee Lo said it was a touching song that the guys brought to life, Cee Lo said it was the toughest battle and choice for him but chose Tony as the winner. Cee Lo said it broke his heart to deny Justin in front of his family. Tony called it a bitter sweet victory.
All of the teams are now complete and will begin competing for fan votes next week.
