Black Panthers offer reward for shooter

Members of the New Black Panther Party have announced a reward worth $10,000 for anyone who "captures" George Zimmerman, the person who killed Trayvon Martin.

The Black Panther Party has gone all out in the Trayvon Martin shooting case.

George Zimmerman is the person responsible for the shooting of Trayvon Martin. He has suddenly become the most wanted person in America.

“It is a very trouble time in the United States of America,” a member of the New Black Panther Party said in a televised statement. “We are in the era of so-called post-racial harmony with all people. But we black people are being murdered all over America and we get the same treatment time and time again. So, we’re saying to President Obama you gotta do your job on this one buddy.”

The leader of the New Black Panther Party, Mikhail Muhammad, announced the reward during a protest in Sanford on Saturday. The announcement generated cheers in the group. When someone asked Muhammad whether this move would incite violence, he said, "An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth."

Mikhail Muhammad even said that members of his group would search for George Zimmerman themselves in Maitland, which is where the shooter worked before the incident took place. It was not made clear when the search for Zimmerman would begin.

This reward announcement by the BPP came just moments after members of the group called for the mobilization of 10,000 black men to capture Zimmerman.

This reward announcement for the capture of George Zimmerman was not met with the same enthusiasm by the Sanford city officials. In fact, the officials condemned the actions of the group and have appealed for the citizens to leave all arrests to the police. Sanford Police Captain Robert O'Connor released a statement saying, "The City is requesting calm heads and no vigilante justice. Attempts by civilians to take any person into custody may result in criminal charges or unnecessary violence."

The former Orange-Osceola County prosecutor, Esther Whitehead said that the BPP's reward announcement had exposed them to civil and possibly criminal liability.

"I can't see how anyone can go out and take action as a private citizen without some government action like the issuance of a warrant," she said. "It doesn't make sense. It doesn't sound reasonable."
