Update 10: 17 a.m. PST: In a quiet, low crime area in a dormitory at Mississippi State University, a student was murdered late Saturday night, according to ClarionLedger.com.
The victim was identified early Sunday morning as John Sanderson of Madison.
The question is, are we looking at a random act of violence or was the deceased student specifically targeted? Authorities have gathered the student was most likely shot multiple times in the dorm room, but ended up just outside the door.
Police are seeking your help to find the three men who took off at 10: 00 p.m. in a blue Crown Victoria after the crime -- campus text alerts are going out to all students who live on campus, warning them of the tragedy. At this time, authorities do not believe the suspects are MSU students.
University spokeswoman Maridith Geuder told the press that police were contacted about the school shooting at Evans Hall and immediately were dispatched to the scene. Initially, emergency procedures were performed on the victim who later died at Oktibbeha County Hospital.
"They worked on him for quite some time," said Bill Kibler, MSU Vice President of student affairs.
A manhunt was launched, but no arrests were made as of early Sunday morning.
University officials and authorities with the police will meet early Sunday about the school shooting, according to campus policy after such an incident.
Evans Hall, located on the north side of campus, is a four-story residence facility that houses over 300 guys.
It makes one wonder about the possibility of stricter gun policies. Would it help to tighten up the laws, or are people going to carry weapons and kill regardless of the laws?
