LANDIKOTAL: To raise awareness among the local people Fata TB control program organized a daylong seminar and walk in Jamrud civil hospital here on Saturday.
A large number of schools’ students, teachers, health staff and officials, civil society members and local elders were present in the seminar and walk. Teachers and Students from the Government Higher secondary School in Jamrud were specially invited on the occasion.
Speaking to the participants, Fata TB program manager, Dr Abdul Khaliq, said that said that Pakistan was the sixth country in the world where every year 0.4 million people unfortunately become the Tuberculosis (TB) patients. He said that TB treatment was very easy and simple but if the virus was controlled within the eight months of course it turns more dangerous and then need long and expensive medical treatment.
Agency surgeon, Dr. Azam Wazir said that last year they have provided complete medical treatment to 702 pateints in Khyber agency. He urged the people that TB was no more fatal dieses and it could be eradicate if patients take medicines on time.
Dr. Zai-ur-Rehman, they have many patients who ignored their treatment and now going through Multi Drugs Resistance (MDR) which mostly takes 18 months to 24 months to recover. He urged the patients and their family members to immediately contact the TB centres whenever they need assistance. He said that it was the great challenge for Pakistan to control TB as it spread like wildfire due to the poor living condition and illiteracy. He said that a TB centre would also start working from the first of April at Jalozai IDPs camp in Peshawar for the displaced families of Bara and Tirah valley.
Later the participants also took a walk holding banners and placards inscribed that TB is no more untreatable dieses and could be kill the virus if the patients take proper medicines.
