A Filipino who was tested positive for HIV was finally able to fly from Kuwait with the help of fellow Filipinos. The Filipino was working as a chef for three years in the said country.
The HIV victim able to found out that he was positive after series of medical tests for the workers assigned in salons, restaurants and spa. The medical test is a government requirement every year. Under the Kuwaiti law once you are positive for HIV the person will be given 15 days to leave the country.
The 15 days is not enough for the Filipino victim due to his unsettled debts that amounted 500 Kuwaiti dinars or P76, 000 in Philippine equivalent. Labor Attache David Des Dicang calls the Filipino on Kuwait and even seeks help on Philippine television just for the HIV victim to leave Kuwait. According to Dicang they receive pledges intended for HIV victim.
Due to the strike happened in Kuwait the victim was given two days by Ministry of Health and the victim just left the country yesterday. The Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) is concerned about the number of HIV positive Filipinos in Kuwait.
