Kathy Bates' Cancer Secret

It has been revealed that Kathy Bates has been fighting ovarian cancer. The actress who can boast an Oscar did not at first reveal that she had been suffering from this potentially fatal condition. We learnt about her ordeal as she was being interviewed. The actress opened up to Anderson Cooper. Apparently she made sure that the public was kept in the dark about the battle. Some people cope with stress better when they are not being given sympathy from perfect strangers. It is one of the coping mechanisms that they can use to divert attention away from a personal tragedy.

What does the future hold for the actress?

She seems to have made a recovery that is sufficiently encouraging for her to speak about the story. Of course many women that have suffered a cancer scare are always worried about remission and other related health problems. The case of Kathy Bates also serves to highlight the plight of many people who are either struggling with the disease or are facing the increased risk of getting it. Therefore it makes sense that she shares her story with anyone that is able to understand what she has been through. At 63 years of age, Kathy will have been worried that this dreadful disease would have a tremendous impact on her life.

The star from Harry’s Law says that she was under contract to do a movie at the time when the scare took hold. Apparently she would have been part of the cast for Little Black Book, a story that involved the late Brittany Murphy who died in 2009 at just 32 years of age. Nevertheless the star felt that she might change her decision to go private if she faced the same health scare and expressed her admiration for stars like Melisa Ethridge who have been open about their problems.
