Last night, in a staggering game of football, Manchester City prevailed as winners coming from behind and making it 2-1 at the end of the final whistle.
The English Premier League will go down the wire as many pundits and experts have labelled it to be the most competitive league played in a long time in English football. Manchester City is having a season of their life; breaking the record of league leaders Manchester United’s consecutive home victories. Manchester City has now won 20 consecutive games at Etihad stadium.
Manchester City slipped against Swansea City last week, giving a cushion of 4 points of defending champions Manchester United. Sir Alex Ferguson was very pleased with the league position of his team and stated himself that he doesn’t see the title being defended successfully until the last day of the league.
In a clash of the titans last night, Manchester City hosted Chelsea who is fighting for a position in the top four of the league themselves. It was an edgy game and Chelsea took the lead in the opening minutes of the second half. Cahill scored from the box that was deflected in to the back of the net.
But Manchester City were right back in it when a shot was goal bound from Samir Nasri’s foot but was stopped by Essien’s hand that awarded a penalty to the home team. This opportunity was dually accepted and conquered by Sergio Aguero and the game was levelled at 1-1.
A much controversial change was made by the home team to bring on Carlos Tevez who has been making highlights of his own this season appearing only in his 6th game. Although he did not receive the welcome that many expected he would, he still was at his best when a perfect tackle lead to a perfect pass to Nasri and a fine finish from the French man took Manchester city coming from behind to lead 2-1 in the game in the dying moments of the match.
It was not a long wait when the final whistle was heard at the stadium and Tevez provided the assist to a goal that helps Manchester City to be right at the toes of the league leaders, the red devils.
After yesterday’s match, Sir Alex Ferguson now has to conjure up a perfect strategy to stay at the top of the league and try to shake off their “noisy neighbours” and on the other hand Roberto Mancini has to go all in to defend his controversial statement “WE WILL WIN THE LEAGUE”.
