Anastasia - Part 2 [RUSSIAN]

Report By: Nina Rai

21 March, 2012

Most people on earth would be petrified at the very thought of death, however, here is the case of a Centenarian who got so fed up of ‘waiting for death’ that she took her own life.

After informing her family that she was tired of waiting to die, the 105-year old Anastasia Khoreva took a rope and hanged herself. According to friends of the great-great-great-gran had been miserable and low after her health took a beating with a lung infection.

Check: Picture of Anastasia

Since the pensioner knew that none of her family members would allow her to do anything harmful to herself, she waited till they had gone out of the house and she was alone. After which she got hold of a clothes line to create a temporary noose in her bedroom and hanged herself.

Originally from Darsun in Russia, Anastasia Khoreva had quite an eventful life. During her life time she saw the Russian Revolution, World Wars I and II, and the mass executions of communist dictator Joseph Stalin.

According to one neighbor, it’s rather strange that she took this step at this time of her life; however, “she used to say she was fed up with waiting for death — so she wanted to go and meet it."

Meanwhile a family member informed: "She'd tried once before saying she'd had enough, but that time we managed to stop her.” “This time we weren't so lucky," she added.

Basically Khoreva seemed to be like the cat with nine lives, apparently looking almost as if she had an eternal life. It’s really tragic that she finally had to take a decision to end her life before the Maker himself could make up his mind.

Great story Nina, I can see where people might think this very tragic. However I have known centenarians and many were very lucid and knew exactly what they were doing. When a person of this age makes it known that they are at a turning point in their life, we should first make certain that they are fully aware of what they are doing, then we need to remember they have lived a very full life and may be like this woman said tired of waiting for death. There is a point that they see their lives as being finished and it is only a matter of when they will pass on. In many cases it is a choice that they have given great thought to. If their intent to end their own life has been made by a lucid and intelligent adult then we should respect their wishes and support their needs at a time when we might all want to say no. There will be many different opinions on this, IMHO we should encourage the governments of our countries to embrace the policy of assisted suicide. We don't have the right to tell clear thinking people how long they have to live. Instead we owe them the understanding and compassion to know they have made a choice for themselves and out of respect for them we need to stand by their choice, not try to make it a criminal act.

Larry I want to sincerely thank you
for giving so much thought to this
touchy topic of an elderly person
voluntarily embracing death. However
on the topic of 'assisted suicide'
I have my reservations as there is
an inherent danger of unscrupulous
persons greed forcibly taking an
elderly person's life maybe for greed.
This issue is fraught with grave danger.
At the same time I do appreciate your
empathy on this matter. Thanks a ton
for this comprehensive feedback Larry.

Thank you Nina for your comments on my posting. I can see your concern and it would have to be heavily monitored if it were to work at all.

Probably she reached at the point of conclusion thinking worthless to be alive but forget " suicide is equally worthless like life". Sad news. Take my appreciation for your good work Nina. Rated^

The story is something rare, very rare indeed. Most people would like to have long life or immortality. I myself would like to have eternal life but that would be possible when you're dead already. Well, there are some people who are impulsive, yah know? You can't blame them.

She was ungrateful because she didn't realize how blessed she was to live to 105.

You are entitled to your viewpoint,
just as she was to her own.
