Skooter reporting 03/21/12
Information is unclear so far, but the United States Geological Survey reports a 7.6 magnitude temblor that hit at midday on Tuesday in southwestern Mexico, about 100 miles east of Acapulco. The tremor was a little bit stronger compared to the earthquake that nearly wiped out the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince which was 7.0. The deep of the epicenter was 11 miles near the town of Ometepec. ABC described the shaker as a “strong long rumbler.” Mexico appears to have been past the worst from a major catastrophe.
No tsunami warning was issued. President Calderon said after the quake that there was no serious damage and the quake could be felt as far away as Mexico City.
The White House said after the quake struck that Malia Obama happened to be in nearby Oaxaca and that she was not in danger.
