An earthquake measuring up to 7.9 occurred on Tuesday near the Mexican city of Acapulco on the Pacific coast, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

Aftershocks were continuing nature. Hypocenter of the earthquake was at a depth of about 17.5 kilometers.

The powerful earthquake in Mexico, were damaged more than five hundred buildings, including the state capital, reports on Wednesday, reports Reuters. At the same time reports of injured or dead residents have been reported.

The earthquake occurred near the resort town of Acapulco, its hypocenter was located at a depth of about 17.5 kilometers underground. Magnitude earthquake, according to updated data, was 7.4, not 7.9, as previously reported. The main seismic shock lasted about one minute, followed by several aftershocks.

As governor of Guerrero curled, where the epicenter was located in its territory damaged about five hundred houses, some of them are destroyed. In Ometepeke, nearest to the epicenter of the village, were damaged about 60 buildings. In the neighboring state of Oaxaca, according to authorities, affected mainly the building of schools.
