March 20, 2012-At least nine people were injured due to cuts and abrasions when a mini-tornado which lasted for 20 minutes had smashed Australia, in the city of Townsville, early this morning.
The devastating calamity had brought down power lines, trees were being cut down, cars flipped over and dozens of roof houses being ripped off with walls completely gone.
Ergon Energy spokesman John Fowler told reporters that "It's going to take a while to restore.”
Quoting a line from AFP post, it says “Meteorologists, who said the freak storm could not officially be called a tornado as there was no funnel, recorded winds of up to 111 kilometres (69 miles) per hour, leaving thousands of homes without power.”
The Queensland Department of Community Safety told reporters that the nine people wounded were trapped in their cars when a key highway was cut off by a landslide.
So far, no one is reportedly dead.
This is just a breaking news. More updates to follow.
