(#5)How pimps turn girls into prostitutes

Skooter reporting 03/20/12

Are you fond of buying sex on line? Well, you can visit US classifieds website Backpage.com that has become one of the key destinations on the internet to buy sex. Pimps and prostitutes put up hundreds of Ads every day.

With the arrival of the high tech era such as the internet, prostitution backed off the street and entered what we call the web, offering a new set of challenges for law enforcement and sex abuse watchdogs.

The newspaper company that owns Backpage, Village Voice Media for the past several years, has received a series of protests from activists, including lawsuits from victims of sexual exploitation who claim that the site helps and supports the forced prostitution.

Village Voice Media beg off to be interviewed for the story. However, it issued a statement to the BBC that it is acting legally and collaborating with authorities to help prosecute those who misuse the website.

Matt Danzico of BBC called on individuals who sell themselves on the site and to those working for its closure.
