South Sudan

Hundreds or perhaps thousands of civilians in South Kordfan region fled to the mountains in fear and in anticipation of imminent attack by the Sudanese army . Sudanese forces earlier attacked the area leaving entire villages destroyed and razed to the ground. The fleeing people have gone to nearby mountains for shelter against the army bombardments and the ground troops.

International observers accuse the Sudanese government of carrying out these raids while Khartoum based leaderships says that separatist militias of SPLM were behind the attacks.

South Sudan became independent from the north last year but the two sides had strained relations since then after Khartoum blocked oil exports from the south through the main ports in north Sudan .

Republic of South Sudan, is a landlocked country located in the East-Central Africa region. Its current capital is Juba, which is also its largest city.
