George Timothy Clooney was taken into police custody on Friday. The 50-year-old American actor was protesting over conditions in Sudan when arrested from outside the Sudanese Embassy on civil disobedience charges. George’s fatherwas also arrested along with the actor who has an Academy Award and three Golden Globe Awards under his belt.
The arrests were carried out in Washington while father and son were participating in the said protest. The protest was designated to draw higher authorities’ attention towards ever-growing humanitarian crisis in the country. The activists, led by father-son duo term the Sudan crisis a ‘needless’ event.
Mr. George Clooney believes that Omar Al-Bashar, the Sudanese President, is responsible for depriving the people of Nuba Mountains of food and aid; by blocking the supplies. The area in question is located at country’s border in southern Sudan region where Sudanese soldiers and rebels clash each day. As result, desperate for food and other aid, the civilians in South Sudan are suffering a great deal.
While the cops took the actor away in plastic handcuffs, Clooney said that under the situation, something needs to be done. He said if we wanted to something, this was the right moment or else; a real humanitarian disaster follows in the next few months. Officials reportedly warned Clooney and fellow protesters for three times; not to cross the police line, marked outside the embassy. Meanwhile, George Clooney had a one-on-one meeting with President Obama during past week. He discussed the situation in Sudan with the president and also testified on the issue; before the congressional committee members.
Wire service report(s) however revealed that Clooney and his dad were eventually released early Friday afternoon.
