On Thursday, the authorities nabbed a duo, wanted in connection with a Chelsea businessman’s murder. Arrangements are being made to extradite the pair, comprising of Edwin Faulkner and Juan Carlos Martinez-Herrera; from Florida to New York. Police located Edwin and Herrera, respectively 30 and 26 years of age, by tracking the cell phone calls they recently made and arrested them in Orlando.
The arrests were made at around 11:30 in the morning by a team comprising of NYPD, 10th Precinct detectives and Manhattan South Homicide Squad members. Officials from the Sheriff’s Orange County Office also assisted the Violent Felony Squad of the Ney York Police Department.
On March 2, John Laubach was allegedly killed by the duo; the lifeless body of 57-year-old Chelsea businessman was found from inside his apartment located at W. 22nd St. According to a police source, suffering a stroke very recently, Laubach had acquired the suspects’ help; by hiring them as his caretaker.
Police report revealed that dressed in a white T-Shirt, Laubach was found with both hands bound with an electric cord. Further, his killers had covered his mouth using a towel while duct tape was also found over his mouth. However, no cause(s) of death could be determined yet, further revealed police report. After Laubach’s murder, Faulkner was captured by a surveillance camera; while trying to use the victim’s ATM. Police said he was seen at a Chase Bank Branch in Manhattan, located on E. 14th Street. Meanwhile, Faulkner had already been involved in legal trouble in past; over a grand larceny, he was sent to state prison for nearly three years.
Similarly, former resident of Florida Martinez-Herrera is also had a criminal past; four arrests in the Sunshine State. Both Herrera and Faulkner were busted on several occasions in past over drug possession charges. The moment the pair is extradited to New York; the suspects will be charged for John Laubach’s March 2 murder who was an insurance executive.
