If you like up-tempo college basketball games, then don't miss tonight's game in Dayton, OH between BYU (25-8) and Iona (25-7). This First Four play-in game will be for the 14th seed in the West Regional of this season's NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. The game will be televised live at 9 PM EST on truTv.
Iona is the one team college basketball experts jumped on for even making this year's tournament. The Gaels were MAAC regular season champs, but were bumped out of their conference tournament in the semifinals. The reason why Iona is in the Big Dance is because they defeated nine non-conference foes from better conferences. If you look at their overall schedule, then they deserve to be in. Iona is led by forward Mike Glover, who leads the team with 18.5 ppg and 9 rebounds per game. PG Scott Machado is one of the best assist men (9.9 apg) in the country. They have to play uptempo because their tallest player in their rotation is 6'7".
BYU has one of the best frontcourt duos in the country with Noah Hartsock (16.7 ppg) and Brandon Davies (15.0 ppg). The Cougars have a freshman backcourt, but they have grown up quickly this season.
Prediction: BYU is favored by two points over Iona. I would have to go with BYU because the rebounding advantage for BYU in this game will be outrageous. Even though I dislike Mormonism, BYU is my pick.
