Libyan Women Could Lose Their Rights

After the National Transition Council (NTC) took control of the Libyan government, many of the women thought that the takeover during the Arab Spring would help bring the country of Libya towards gender equality.

Nevertheless, Libya has a long way to go. From the actions and words given by Libyan men in the new government, it appears that Libyan men could possibly gain a hold on being known as the most chauvinistic upon this earth.

For example, here is a quote from a speech given by NTC Chairman Mustafa Abdul Jalil. He wants to reinstate polygamy.

"The rule that limited the number of wives to one is against sharia law, and it should be banned."

Great! Libya will now give up their freedom by turning to sharia law. If that's the case, then women could possibly lose all of their rights in Libya.
