How suspicious is Blue Collar America of Obama?

Ignorance is Contradiction. The distrust against Obama in Middle America (read Caucasian, blue collar, middle aged males) resonates with all major Post 911 and Post Vietnam negative stereotypes: Muslim Terrorist, Disloyal to American Values, Black Militant. On the one hand, it is a dissappointing commentary on the insularity or narrow mindedness still prevalent in Middle America -- which is sure to raise the hackles of more cosmopolitan and liberal Americans. But on the other hand -- and this is important -- is the fact that Obama still leads McCain in US opinion polls.

Like one commentator in Berlin said: "While 200,000 turned up to hear Obama speak and they treated him like a Rock Star, Germany could never throw up its own Obama -- a Turk or Afghan who could legitimately via for the Chancellorship."

The fact that a little over a generation after Martin Luther KingMartin Luther King, the USA may be on the verge of electing its first Black President speaks volumes about the reality of the "melting pot". If these contradictory, negative and unfortunate stereotypes can be overcome, and Obama does become President, American society would have come of age in some important ways and the American Dream would acquire a new sheen in the eyes of the world.
