New sources Associated Press and nola.com Lafayette Louisiana. Two prisoners who escaped from a Lafayette Parish Correctional Center Saturday morning were captured hours later by the authorities.
The two prisoners used makeshift knifes and overpowered two deputies around 1:30am. The prisoners who escaped are Kevin Gildhoven 22, who is in prison on a first degree murder charge in the shooting death in 2009 of a Lafayette taxi driver and Troy Jackson 29, who is in prison for armed robbery.
Both prisoners were captured by the teamwork of the United States Marshals, city marshal and the Lafayette police department.
One of the escaped prisoners was captured at a store and the other escaped prisoner was captured at a gasoline station.
The two deputies who were overpowered in the prison were unharmed.
