Nelson Bocaranda, a well-known veteran journalist in Venezuela was called “clown” and “liar” by President Hugo Chavez for spreading news about his cancer, but he just disregarded such terms by posting more rumors and information daily about the president’s health condition in his Twitter accounts: @NelsonBocaranda and @RunRunesWeb, which became a hit with more than 670,000 followers.

"They call me a homosexual, a cocaine addict, a son of a bitch. I ignore it and laugh," Bocaranda told Reuters.

Pro-opposition Bocaranda, 66, had first exposed to the public about Chavez’s disease in mid-2011 then followed with a scoop about his return to Cuba and seek for another treatment as there was a recurrence of the first tumor being removed from his pelvic area.

Bocaranda is now condemned by Chavez’s supporters and consider his investigative reporting against the latter’s condition a hindrance ahead of his presidential campaign, seeking re-election for October vote, report says.

Diosdado Cabello, the head of Congress and also a former military confederate to Chavez told reporters that Bocaranda is sick in his soul.

"Every day he wishes death on the 'Comandante', or is he being paid to write his lies?" he added.

Also, some former allies of Chavez are furious against Bocaranda for giving “unofficial” information which he obtained only from spectral sources.

Meanwhile, Bocaranda claimed that he has different sources in Cuba and Colombia to Brazil and the United States.

The vocal journalist on the other hand who is becoming popular for his exposé, is also worried about his safety. Reuters says that Bocaranda in one of his column writing has warned that the state would be responsible for anything that happens to him or his family.
