A Palestinian man was killed and by Israeli Soldier on Thursday after stabbing a soldier in a West Bank village near Hebron.
The wounded soldier was evacuated to Hadassah Ein-Kerem Hospital by ambulance. He was reported to be conscious with a gash in his neck.
Zakaria Abu Araam, 22, was killed as soldiers were raiding the Hebron area village of Yatta, onlookers said. He was pronounced dead at the Abu al-Hasan al-Qasem Hospital, medics said.
Soldiers had surrounded the home of Khaled Makhamreh, who was released as part of captive Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit deal, when the clash broke out, onlookers said. An 18-year-old, Muhammad Rashad, was injured.
An Israeli army spokesman said Araam had accompanied a Palestinian who stabbed and injured a soldier.Israeli forces "fired at the assailant, injuring him and killing a second Palestinian who accompanied the assailant."
The spokesman said the incident was being investigated, while Ynet news said that Khaled Mahamra was suspected to be smuggling funds for the Palestinian resistance factions in the West Bank since his release.
Red Crescent officials accused the Israeli army of initially preventing them from providing first aid at the scene. After negotiations, they were allowed to treat Rashad, who was later arrested.
Earlier Thursday,Two 12-year-old Palestinian boys have been killed by an old Israeli mortar that exploded in the occupied West Bank city of Hebron.
Hamza Zayed Jaradat, 12, and Zayed Juma Jaradat, 12, were killed in the blast in Wadi Reem, east of Hebron in the southern West Bank, medics told Ma'an.
Hebron police chief Ramadan Awad said the boys were killed when an old Israeli mortar exploded.
Natheer Juma Jaradat, 16, and, Yasser Muhammad Jaradat, 19 and Hisham Zayed Jaradat were injured in the explosion and taken to Hebron Governmental Hospital.
The group had been playing in a field filled with scrap metal in the nearby village of Sier, Awad said.
An Israeli military spokesman said an initial investigation indicated that the blast was caused by "unexploded ordnance that was ignited" but had no further details.
Israel occupied East Jerusalem, Gaza strip and the West Bank in 1967. It imposes strict restrictions on indigenous Palestinians, while expanding illegal Jewish settlements in defiance of international law.
