MOSCOW, - A female suicide bomber killed at least five police officers after the blow up a police station in the volatile region of Dagestan, southern Russia.
The woman detonated the bomb late on Tuesday near Karabudakhkent, a village 40 kilometers south of the provincial capital Makhachkala, said a local police officer,according to Russian news agency RIA.
"The terrorist approached the room (the police) and blew herself up," said the policeman.
The Dagestan faces bomb attacks and shootings daily, resulting from an Islamic insurgency in the region of the mainly Muslim North Caucasus after two separatist wars in Chechnya.
The rebels want to create an Islamic state governed by Sharia in the region, which is close to Sochi, where Russia will hold the Winter Olympics in 2014.
