A tropical storm Irina has killed at least 65 persons of the Ifanadiana district of southeast Madagascar.

Initial reports had indicated that only person had lost his life when a tree fell on him and the storm passed over the island of Madagascar and on to the coasts of South Africa and Mozambique. But – detailed reports reveal a more serious situation.

Irina was the second such instance after the tropical storm Giovanna which had killed 35 and left many injured when it had struck. It had struck on 21st of February 2012.

Beaches of Durban in South Africa have been closed as a precautionary measure due to the huge waves that reached up to 3-meters in height. Ships have also been advised not to venture into the waters but to remain in port.
