A penguin-hunt is on in Tokyo and neighboring places.
A one-year old 24-inches tall Humboldt penguin was born last January-2012.
It has managed to give its keepers the slip and escape into freedom from ‘The Tokyo Sea life Park’ in the east of Tokyo. There are a total of 134 Humboldt penguins in the same enclosure and hence its disappearance was not noticed immediately.
It had apparently scaled the steep rock walls of the cage which was nearly twice its height.
The penguin had been seen bathing in the mouth of the Old Edogawa River which runs into the bay of Tokyo. It was only then that the zoo came to know of its disappearance.
The escape has shades of the movie ‘Madagascar’ in which a group of animals, assisted by four penguins, escape while being transported in a ship.
Zoo officials are trying to zero in on its position, catch it and bring it back.
