Atlanta’s own TV chef, Alton Brown of the FoodTV network, will be hosting the James Beard Awards in May 2012.
Television personality and FoodTV network chef of shows like Good Eats, Iron Chef America and mini-series Feasting on Asphalt and Feasting on Waves, will reportedly be hosting the James Beard Foundation Chef and Restaurant Awards held on May 7, 2012 in New York City.
Alton Brown also won the Beard Foundation’s award for Best TV Food Personality back in 2011 for his FoodTV network show Good Eats, which as you know, approach cooking with the mindset of a perfectionist if not a scientist!
Beard Foundation also bestowed an award to Alton Brown back in 2003 for publishing his first book, “I’m Just Here for the Food.” Not bad for a first attempt at penning his passion for food!
Held at the Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall and themed “25 Years of Food at its Best,” the gala ceremony will celebrate the silver anniversary of the James Beard Foundation Chef and Restaurant Awards, which began as a boat cruise around Manhattan in 1987.
Known to the culinary world as the “Oscars of the Restaurant World,” the awards are considered to be among the most prestigious recognitions of excellence.
The awards ceremony will be followed by a reception catered by chefs from around the country, including Susan Spicer of Bayona in New Orleans, Louisiana, Sean Brock of McCrady’s and Husk in Charleston, South Carolina, and Frank Stitt of Highlands Bar & Grill in Birmingham, Alabama.
