Nicolas Sarkozy, the President of France, is seeking re-election. However, when he came to the county of Basque for campaigning, the crowd booed him and threw eggs aimed at him.
The hostile crowd insulted and jeered at him.
They shouted slogans – ‘Nicolas kampora’ which means ‘Nicolas get out’.
As a result, he was forced to take shelter in an adjacent Bar du Palais in south-western town of Bayonne and escape the back way after an hour.
The bar was guarded by the riot-police.
The unruly crowd apparently consisted of supporters of Sarkozy’s rival Socialist candidate Francois Hollande – and Sarkozy labeled them as ‘hooligans’.
Latest opinion poll reveals that Nicolas Sarkozy is losing ground and the popularity of Francois Hollande is on the rise – but the incumbent President is determined to close the gap.
