Oil Shut: Minister Urges Citizens to Tighten Economic Belts

Hon. Michael Makuei Lueth, the Minister of Parliamentary affairs in the National Government yesterday in a parliamentary session has revealed that there is no doubt that the shutting down of the oil will have a direct impact upon the people and the government of the Republic of south Sudan. He said that the situation that requires tightening of belts.

Mukuei said that all the south Sudan oil fields pipe lines are now completely shutdown in all the fields, both unity and upper Nile respectively and he said too that there is only twenty five percent about 45,000 barrel a day that is situated at the northern part that is flowing, for this reason Khartoum as well has the same impact .

He further more said that the shutting down of the oil fields marks the beginning of a new era on the relations with the republic of Sudan, but it did not mean stopping negotiation with Khartoum. He affirmed that the Government south Sudan will continue to negotiate with Khartoum Government until it reaches good terms under the auspices of the African union High implementation panel (AUHIP). He said that the Government will continue to pursue talks on the post independent outstanding issues he continued, citizenship and border demarcation.

He also said that Sudan and South Sudan had put number of accusation on each other in holding land that steel has not been defined on the border, in which it is going to be among the issues that will be discussed, others the oil and the citizen issues. He touched the issue of women and children under slavery in Khartoum.

He also said that Khartoum has blocked transport system to south Sudan keeping many south Sudanese in hostages and he urged that Khartoum to open the roads for south Sudanese to come back home .
