It was a bleeding rhino horn in the wreck of a car that crashed in Johannesburg that led the police to the trail of a gang of rhino poachers. Obviously, the horn had been torn out from the nose of the rhino which must have been killed.
Reports indicate that over 448 rhinos have been killed in the past one year for the horns which are in demand in the international market. It is said to possess very good healing powers.
The horn smeared in blood was kept in a cooler bag in the car and it came to light when investigators were searching the crash site.
The trail led the police to a gang of four men in the age group of 19 to 33.
The poachers were caught red handed with blood in their car – they must be cursing their luck for having got involved in a crash with proof of their crime.
