Demetrius Hewlin is the third student to die from injuries suffered from the rampage shootings that took place at his Ohio high school. The 17-year-old boy wounded in Monday's shooting has been declared brain dead, authorities said, following the death of another student.
Hospital officials in Cleveland said on Tuesday that another student shot on Monday at Chardon High School has died, according to Reuters.
Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland made a statement that 17-year-old Demetrius Hewlin died.
His parents made a statement saying, “ "We are very saddened by the loss of our son and others in our Chardon community,"
"Demetrius was a happy young man who loved life and his family and friends. We will miss him very much but we are proud that he will be able to help others through organ donation. We ask that you respect our privacy during this difficult time."
Two students remain in the hospital.
Authorities said the suspect, a student, will appear at 3:30 pm Tuesday in a hearing at Geauga County Juvenile Court.
The incident ranks as the worst gun violence at a U.S.high school in 11 months and in Ohio since late 2007, according to the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence.
