The deadly shooting that took place at a school in Ohio on Monday has now left one of the victims brain dead. It should be noted that due to the shooting one student is already dead, while three others are critically wounded.
The state of Ohio was shaken by a deadly school shooting that took place on Monday morning. The shooter was a teenager, who was identified by students and parents as T.J. Lane. The motive behind the shooting has not been discovered yet, as investigation is still going on.
The teen gunman opened fire on students on Monday morning in the cafeteria, and a student, who was waiting for the bus, died right on the spot. The student who died was later identified as Daniel Parmentor, a 17-year-old student at the school. Four other students got critically injured and were immediately taken to the hospital.
Now, according to the latest news, one of the wounded students is confirmed brain dead, and might not remain alive for a very long time.
The brain-dead student was identified as Russell King Jr., 17. He is being currently treated at Cleveland's MetroHealth Medical Center.
"The cause and manner of death of this case are under on-going investigation and will be released upon completion," Shannon, a spokeswoman at MetroHealth System, said in a statement Tuesday morning, adding that no information on his condition was available.
The Ohio school district was closed on Monday and it will be closed again on Tuesday so that the students and their families can grapple with the situation.
"We want them to stay home and spend some time reflecting on family," an emotional Joseph Bergant, superintendent of Chardon schools, told a news conference. Bergant also urged the parents of the students to kiss and hug their children and give them the feeling of being protected since it was a hard time for the entire community.
According to some students, T.J. Lane's sister was also present in the cafeteria when the shooting took place. She ran to the teacher's room when she heard the shots and was devastated when she found out that it was her brother who was the gunman.
The lawyer for the T.J. Lane family released a statement on behalf of the family, saying, "The family wanted me to convey to the citizens of Geauga County and Northeastern Ohio that the family is devastated by this most recent event."
It is still not sure what charges will be levied against T.J. Lane.
