Nicole Graham of Melbourne was walking with her 18-year old show horse Astro and her daughter Paris on the sea shore of Geelong.
Suddenly, the 78-stone horse Astro stepped into a patch of coastal mud that was like quicksand. The more it tried to free itself, the more it got drawn in.
The tide was closing in and both Nicole and Astro were stuck up to their waist in the mud. She was desperate - she had to ensure that the head of Astro remained above the level of water.
She had to struggle for three hours before her daughter could reach their car and summon help to extricate Astro from the mud.
Astro was ultimately given a dose of sedative and pulled out by a tractor.
Nicole Graham apparently owns 10 horses and runs an equine dentistry business.
