A tourist bus plunged into a ravine in northern China: Fifteen confirmed dead

The death of fifteen people was confirmed after a tour bus had plunged into a ravineSaturday morning in Shanxi province (north), local authorities said.

The accident occurred Saturday at 9:25, on a section of National Highway 207 in the District of Zezhou, under the administration of the city of Jincheng, according to provincial police of the road.

The bus was carrying 35 seats 33 people and left Jincheng bound for the city of Jiyuan incentral Henan province, officials said.

Nineteen people were injured in the accident and taken to hospital, local authorities said.Two of the injured were in critical condition and 12 others were seriously injured.

All passengers were tourists from the city of Yima Henan Province, said a survivor namedZhao Qini.

The bus belongs to the company Transportation Corporation of Sanmenxia City, Henan Province.

The emergency continues, and an investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
