Providence Teachers Union - Up In Arms

Labor union leaders are blasting the Woonsocket School Committee for voting to send layoff notices to all 600 teachers in the school district.

The committee voted 3-2 Wednesday night to issue the pink slips in anticipation of budget cuts. State law requires school districts to notify union workers of possible layoffs by March 1.

Woonsocket Teachers Guild President Jeffrey Partington says sending termination notices to all teachers sends the wrong message to the community about the city’s commitment to education. The guild plans to challenge the School Committee’s action. Boston.com

This shows a good example why the US Dept. Of Education is not working. They take US taxpayers dollars and very little go to schools. What needs to happen instead of giving the DOE so much money every year, that money then to go back to the states.

Keep teachers working so they can teach our children
